I am a recent graduate of the University of Pretoria. This site serves to illustrate my personal style, ability and beliefs within the field of architecture. The projects shown illustrate the development/improvement of my skills as a designer and show the continuing formation of my interests and beliefs.

My architectural manifesto as I currently believe it to be follows:

Stylistic movements and overruling personal styles should be avoided and an architecture uniquely suited to the programmatic, contextual and environmental aspects of each project should be adopted.

Environmentally sustainable design principles should be considered in all buildings.

Functionality of buildings must take precedence over all other aspects.

Architecture must identify with and enhance the genius loci of the site.

Architectural works should be integrated to ultimately form part of large, complex and self-sufficient systems. “Organisational Bionics”. (Gruber. 2010:16)

All architectural investigation should have a focus on viability under real-world conditions. Projects must be built to visibly impact the lives of their users.

An architectural project is designed to fit many different and often conflicting requirements…The architect's task is the integration of all these levels in the final project. (Gruber. 2010:12)

“About half of the world's population lives in densely populated urban areas. Built environment has replaced the former natural environment as man's "normal" surrounding. Therefore the design of the built environment  is becoming more and more important. Qualities that in former times could be found in nature have to be introduced into the artificial, cultural, or social, environment, in order to maintain quality of life and biodiversity.” (Gruber. 2010:8)
